## ELMACON 2019 will take place on April 27th

(competition registration will be open from February 1st-March 31st.)

## Preparation Sessions

Ahead of the contest, PIMS will again be running two preparation sessions for interested ELMACON competitors. These preparation sessions last for two hours and are free.

At each session, questions from past exams will be used to teach mathematical techniques useful for the competition. The sessions are open to anyone and will give students a taste of what the competition will be like.

**Session 1:** *Saturday January 26th 10am-12pm*

The questions (with answers) used during this preparation session are now available for download.

During the first preparation session, Dr Keshet set a homework problem. The problem has two parts, students who submit a correct answers to both parts to **elmacon@pims.math.ca** before February 15th, will be entered into a prize draw to win free entry to the competition. One student from each grade will be selected at random from the correct answers. You must include your name and grade number with your entry.

Question 1: Let N=495864. Note that 1 and N are factors of N, how many factors does N have? (Answer: 48)

Question 2: What is the sum of all factors of N? (Answer: 1375920)
